Attention is turning to who will succeed Senator Cynthia Lummis, one of Washington’s most prominent cryptocurrency backers, after the Republican lawmaker announced she will not seek re-election.

Bitcoin.com reported on November 3 that President Donald Trump urged voters to support Representative Harriet Hageman, a Wyoming Republican, in a post on X ahead of the midterm election. “I fully support Harriet Hageman, and she will never let you down,” Trump wrote.

Hageman won the Republican primary in August with 62.7% of the vote. She will face former Wyoming state Representative James Byrd, a Democrat, in the state’s Senate midterm election.

Hageman has also compiled a crypto-friendly voting record. She voted for the CLARITY Act, a crypto market structure bill passed by the House in July last year, and the GENIUS Act, a stablecoin regulation bill. She also backed legislation to restrict the issuance of a central bank digital currency, or CBDC.

Lummis, known in the industry as the “Crypto Queen,” announced in December last year that she would not run again. Her term ends in January next year.

The CLARITY Act, which Lummis has championed, passed the House last year but remains stalled in the Senate. A cloture vote held in the Senate in September failed 49-50.
