Forecast Trend Report by Period

Voting in the US midterm elections, seen as a referendum on President Donald Trump’s handling of his second term, began on Nov. 3. Attention is focused on whether Republicans can retain their majority in both the House and Senate.
Polls opened in stages across the country, starting in parts of Vermont at 5 a.m. Korea time, according to foreign media reports including Al Jazeera and The Washington Post. Voters will elect all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 of the Senate’s 100 seats and 36 governors.
Polls will close in stages by region. Some areas in Indiana and Kentucky will be the first to finish voting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 3, while voting in Alaska will continue until 1 a.m. on Nov. 4.
Vote counting will begin immediately after polls close.
Early returns from Kentucky, Florida and Virginia are poised to serve as key indicators of the broader electoral landscape. Results later from Senate battlegrounds including Michigan, Maine and Texas are expected to sharpen the picture of which party will prevail.
Still, final results in some battleground states could take several days because of mail-in ballot counting and ranked-choice voting.
