Summary

  • Movement announced the launch of the mainnet beta combining Ethereum compatibility and the Move language.
  • They stated that they would improve the speed of existing Ethereum-based scaling solutions by using technology that reduces the network's transaction confirmation time to less than one second.
  • Through the MoveDrop program, they plan to distribute up to 1 billion MOVE tokens to reward ecosystem contributors and encourage network participation.

Movement, the blockchain developer based on the Move language, announced the launch of its mainnet beta on the 11th.

Movement is an Ethereum (ETH) Layer 2 utilizing the Move programming language, originally developed by Meta (formerly Facebook). Unlike independently operated Layer 1s, it brings Ethereum's strong network effects and security while allowing developers using the Move language to operate within the Ethereum ecosystem.

The Movement mainnet beta is the first step towards commercializing the Movement network. During this period, infrastructure providers for the Movement network will build key network components such as Follower Nodes, RPC nodes, and indexers, and verify the system synchronization status and security framework with network operators.

Through this, Movement plans to showcase a feature that reduces the network's transaction confirmation time to less than one second using its proprietary technology, 'postconfirmations.' This increases speed compared to the transaction confirmation time of existing Ethereum-based scaling solutions (ranging from minutes to up to a day).

With the mainnet launch, Movement will distribute up to 1 billion MOVE tokens to the community through the 'MoveDrop' program. MoveDrop aims to create a sustainable ecosystem by rewarding ecosystem contributors with MOVE tokens, encouraging active participation in network infrastructure security and governance.

Rushi Manche, co-founder of Movement Labs, stated, "Movement aims to create true utility value by combining the Ethereum ecosystem with the Move language," and added, "We will support Move language developers to realize new possibilities within the Ethereum ecosystem by integrating the Move language with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)."
