As Donald Trump's appointments to major institutional positions continue, a pro-crypto figure has thrown his hat in the ring for the chairmanship of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

On the 11th (local time), Bloomberg News reported, citing sources, that Brian Quintenz, the policy head at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), recently interviewed for the CFTC chair position.

The CFTC is the top regulatory body for futures products in the United States. The appointment of the CFTC chair is expected to be made within the next few days. Currently, CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger, Caroline Pham, and CFTC official Joshua Sterling are among the candidates.

Meanwhile, if Quintenz is appointed as CFTC chair, it is analyzed that it could be favorable for the crypto industry. During his previous tenure as a CFTC commissioner under former President Trump, he urged the approval of event contracts that enabled digital asset derivatives and betting platforms.

Since then, he has been promoting crypto-friendly policies at a16z and has joined the board of the prediction market Kalshi.
