President Donald Trump has appointed an individual from the virtual asset (cryptocurrency) industry to lead the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which oversees U.S. banks.
According to Cointelegraph on the 13th (local time), President Trump has nominated Jonathan Gould, former Chief Legal Officer (CLO) of the blockchain infrastructure company Bitfury, as the head of the OCC.
The White House submitted his nomination to the Senate on the 11th. If confirmed by the Senate, Gould will serve as the Comptroller of the Currency for five years. Previously, he served as the Chief Counsel of the OCC from 2018 to 2021 during the first Trump administration and is currently known to be a partner at the law firm Jones Day.
