Summary
- President Trump's announcement considering XRP, ADA, and Solana (SOL) as strategic reserve assets caused these three cryptocurrencies to surge.
- Industry experts strongly criticized the United States' choice of altcoins as strategic reserve assets as inappropriate.
- Meanwhile, they revealed that XRP and ADA have fatal flaws in terms of Total Value Locked and stablecoin liquidity.

Over the weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump's surprise announcement that he is considering XRP, ADA, and Solana as strategic reserve assets caused these three cryptocurrencies to surge. However, industry experts argue that this move by the United States is not appropriate.
On the 3rd (local time), cryptocurrency media outlet The Block reported that many industry experts are strongly criticizing the U.S. strategic stockpiling of cryptocurrencies that includes altcoins. Nick Carter, partner at Castle Island Ventures, pointed out via X (Twitter), "It is not the government's job to run an alternative cryptocurrency hedge fund."
Experts explained that altcoins have fatal flaws that make them unsuitable as strategic reserve assets. Harrison Seletsky, business development manager at SpaceID, noted, "In the case of Ethereum and Solana, they have strong networks, so they could be included in strategic reserve assets. However, for XRP and ADA, their mainnets XRPL and Cardano are significantly inferior in terms of Total Value Locked (TVL) and stablecoin liquidity."
There are also concerns about these altcoins being overly centralized. Alexander Blum, CEO of TwoPrime Digital Assets, emphasized, "XRP, ADA, and Solana have centralized ownership, making them very different cryptocurrencies from Bitcoin."
Some also expressed concerns about excessive government influence on the market. Jean Rausis, co-founder of Smadex, criticized, "Strategic cryptocurrency stockpiling that includes XRP, Solana, and ADA is President Trump's attempt to line his own pockets," adding, "He doesn't understand anything about the strategic stockpiling of cryptocurrencies."
