Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said in an interview with Fox Business, "Canadian and Mexican officials have been calling me all day trying to show that they can do better," adding, "I believe President Trump will cooperate with Canada and Mexico."
He continued, "President Trump is very fair and reasonable," adding, "I think he can work something out with them. It's not a deferment, and President Trump will find a way," and "If they do more, we'll meet in the middle, and we'll probably announce it tomorrow."
Referring to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), he drew a line saying, "If they follow the rules, the president is considering giving remedies. If they don't follow the rules, they have to pay tariffs."
