Summary

  • DSRV Research Director Byung-yoon Seo stated that perception of virtual assets and public blockchains needs to be improved.
  • He revealed that our country's blockchain special zone policy is experiencing problems due to regulations that block innovation at the implementation stage.
  • He stated that domestic blockchain services are limited in growth due to regulations that mandate private blockchains.

There are claims that perception of virtual assets (cryptocurrencies) and public blockchains needs to be improved.

On the 6th, DSRV Research Director Byung-yoon Seo attended a seminar held at the National Assembly and said, "Our country had designated Busan as a blockchain special zone and had ambitions to grow into a global financial hub surpassing Singapore and Hong Kong," adding, "However, the problem is that our country only created special zones but has strange regulations that block innovation."

Specifically, Director Seo said, "Busan also wanted to develop the local community by creating a stablecoin called Dongbaek-jeon. However, domestic guidelines for virtual asset issuance rejected public networks, blockchain networks that operate on coins, and mandated the use of private blockchains. But this technology is not being used anywhere else in the world. As a result, a structure has been created where domestic blockchain services can no longer grow."
