Summary

  • The El Salvador government continues to purchase Bitcoin despite the IMF's restrictions.
  • They purchased 6 additional bitcoins in the last 10 hours, bringing their total holdings to 6,111.18 bitcoins.
  • The IMF pressured El Salvador by requesting the termination of Bitcoin's legal tender status and government acceptance.

The South American country El Salvador has once again purchased additional Bitcoin (BTC). This continues their buying strategy despite the International Monetary Fund (IMF) requesting some restrictions on El Salvador's Bitcoin policy.

According to Bitcoin Office monitoring on the 10th, the El Salvador government purchased 6 additional bitcoins in the last 10 hours. They bought 1 bitcoin 8 hours ago and 5 bitcoins 2 hours ago. With this, El Salvador now holds 6,111.18 bitcoins.

It appears that El Salvador is continuing its Bitcoin accumulation strategy without yielding to IMF pressure. Last year, El Salvador received $1.4 billion in bailout funds from the IMF on the condition of scaling back Bitcoin-related policies. However, El Salvador's Bitcoin accumulation policy has continued since then.

In response, the IMF once again demanded on the 3rd that El Salvador stop purchasing Bitcoin. The IMF's specific instructions include: ▲removing Bitcoin from legal tender status starting April 30, ▲prohibiting the government from accepting Bitcoin as payment from April 30, ▲not accumulating Bitcoin, ▲stopping public mining, ▲disclosing Bitcoin holdings, and ▲terminating the Bitcoin application Chivo by the end of June.
