Bithumb Participates in Interpol-Hosted International Conference... Cooperating to Eradicate Virtual Asset Crimes

Bithumb announced on the 14th that it was the only Korean virtual asset (cryptocurrency) exchange to attend the 'Project VicTOR (Virtual assets-facilitated financial Crime-Trace, Obstruct and Recover)' conference hosted by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
Project VicTOR is a global conference conducted by Interpol with support from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the purpose of investigating virtual asset financial crimes and preventing money laundering. It was held for three days from March 10 to 12 in Bangkok, Thailand. Law enforcement agencies from 14 Southeast Asian countries including Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand attended this conference, which was held for the second time this year following 2023.
At this conference, Interpol's crime proceeds tracking, blocking, and freezing project 'I-GRIP' and Singapore's virtual asset regulatory trends were shared. In addition, discussions were held on transnational crime response measures such as tracking, blocking, and recovering virtual assets to restore user damages.
Bithumb conducted a special session on the 11th with the theme 'Types of Virtual Asset Crimes and Institutional Arrangements for User Protection.' Jeong-gi Yoo, Head of Policy Support at Bithumb, who appeared as a presenter, introduced the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations and regulations, Korea's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CFT) frameworks, and the latest virtual asset crime trends and types.
In addition, Bithumb held bilateral talks with Tomonobu Kaya, Deputy Director of Interpol's Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Center (IFCACC), to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and promised continuous and close cooperative relations.
Jeong-gi Yoo, Head of Policy Support at Bithumb, said, "It was meaningful to attend the meeting representing domestic exchanges to establish global virtual asset financial crime investigation and anti-money laundering measures," adding, "We will do our part to ensure that the international cooperation system for preventing and recovering virtual asset user damages is solidified."
