An artificial intelligence (AI) agent that received significant attention in the virtual asset (cryptocurrency) market last year has reportedly suffered a hacking attack.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet CoinPaper on the 19th (local time), AIXBT, the flagship AI agent of VIRTUAL Protocol, was hacked by an attacker who stole 55 Ethereum (ETH) from its wallet. This amounts to approximately 155 million KRW at current market rates.
AIXBT is an AI agent built to detect market conditions and execute trades autonomously. It can perform transfers and transactions without specific user commands. The hacker reportedly targeted this AI agent, gaining access to its dashboard and issuing commands instructing the AI to transfer funds.
This incident has sparked debate within the community regarding the security vulnerabilities of AI agents. CoinPaper assessed that "this incident has raised security concerns in the community about AI agents that can independently conduct financial activities."
Meanwhile, investor confidence in AIXBT appears to have been significantly shaken. As of 3 PM today, AIXBT is trading at $0.09645, down 5.54% compared to the previous day. At the same time, VIRTUAL Protocol, which developed AIXBT, has also plummeted by 6.18% compared to the previous day.
