Summary

  • Binance requested the US government to ease regulations and reportedly demanded the dismissal of the supervisor monitoring compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering law.
  • This is interpreted as a move by Binance to re-enter the US market after admitting to violations of the Anti-Money Laundering law in 2023.
  • It was reported that former CEO Changpeng Zhao provided testimony against Justin Sun regarding financial crime allegations, which Justin Sun's side strongly denied.

It has been confirmed that Binance requested the US Treasury to ease government regulations during a private meeting.

According to multiple sources cited by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 11th (local time), Binance executives met with Treasury officials in Washington D.C. last month, asking for a relaxation of government oversight on the company. In this regard, Binance is understood to have requested the dismissal of the supervisor monitoring compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) law.

This is interpreted as a move by Binance to re-enter the market after admitting to violations of the Anti-Money Laundering law in 2023 and withdrawing from the US market. Additionally, Binance is known to have discussed business collaborations at this meeting, including listing a dollar-pegged stablecoin by World Liberty Financial (WLFI), led by the Trump family.

Meanwhile, WSJ also reported that "an investigation into financial crime allegations against Justin Sun, founder of Tron (TRX), was conducted during the Biden administration, and Changpeng Zhao, former CEO of Binance, provided testimony against Justin Sun during plea negotiations with the US Department of Justice."

In response, Justin Sun's side immediately refuted, stating, "These are baseless claims, and the assertion that Tron encourages criminal activity is fabricated." Changpeng Zhao stated on X the previous day, "Many people have told me that WSJ is writing another baseless article attacking me."
