The securities nature of some virtual assets (cryptocurrencies) is expected to be judged by the court again. Dan Rayfield, the Attorney General of Oregon, has filed a lawsuit against Coinbase.

On the 21st (local time), Eleanor Terrett, a reporter for Crypto in America, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Attorney General Rayfield of Oregon filed a lawsuit claiming that Coinbase offered and sold virtual assets classified as unregistered securities as investment contracts.

The virtual assets he classified as unregistered securities include a total of 31, such as XRP, ADA, UNI, SOL, and AVAX. This is more than what the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) previously classified as securities.

Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer (CLO) of Coinbase, commented, "We have received a copy of the complaint. It is noticeable that past precedents regarding the securities nature of virtual assets are entirely omitted," and sarcastically added, "Also, it's not surprising to see the SEC Chairman being labeled as a virtual asset lobbyist."
