There have been views that this year is becoming the most dangerous for virtual asset (cryptocurrency) investors.
According to U.Today, a virtual asset media outlet, on the 8th (local time), Alex Thorn, head of Firmwide Research at Galaxy Digital, said on X (formerly Twitter), "There have already been 25 physical attacks on virtual asset holders this year," and added, "2025 is expected to be the most dangerous year for virtual asset investors."
In fact, according to charts, there have been nearly 30 virtual asset theft incidents this year, making it the fourth highest after 2021, 2022, and 2024. In other words, in just five months, virtually as many virtual asset theft crimes have already occurred as in entire previous years.
By region, most virtual asset extortion crimes occurred in order in France, United States, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
Last January in France, there was even an incident where David Balland, co-founder of the virtual asset wallet company Ledger, and his partner were kidnapped.
Recently, in Manhattan, New York, John Waltz, known as a virtual asset investor, together with accomplices, kidnapped and held an Italian traveler hostage in a hotel for the purpose of virtual asset extortion.
