The Ethereum (ETH) Foundation announced that it has donated $500,000 (approximately $683,900) to support the legal defense of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm.
According to The Block on the 14th (local time), the Ethereum Foundation stated on X the previous day, "We are donating $500,000 to support the defense of Roman Storm, co-founder of Tornado Cash. Additionally, we will accept up to $750,000 in additional donations from the community."
In the same post, the Foundation remarked, "Privacy is normal, and writing code is not a crime."
Meanwhile, Storm is known to be raising a total of $2,000,000 for his defense ahead of the trial scheduled for July 14 in New York. He was indicted in 2023 on conspiracy to launder money and sanctions evasion, and has since argued for dismissal of the charges on the grounds of a First Amendment (freedom of speech) violation.
