Global virtual asset exchange Binance announced on the 16th that it will officially sponsor AWIC (Association for Women in Cryptocurrency) to support and expand women’s participation and growth in the blockchain field.
Founded in 2022, AWIC is a global platform that aims to enhance women’s roles and expand participation opportunities in the digital finance era. Amanda Wick, the founder and CEO of the association, previously served as Chief Legal Officer at Chainalysis, federal prosecutor at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), and Senior Policy Advisor at FinCEN.
As an official sponsor of AWIC, Binance plans to actively participate in education, training, mentoring, networking events, campaigns, and more. In addition, by planning joint educational programs to allow more women—from virtual asset beginners to prospective entrepreneurs—to participate easily in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, Binance aims to promote projects that advance gender equality and diversity across the blockchain industry.
During its operation of virtual asset businesses, Binance has consistently demonstrated efforts to bridge gender gaps and enhance inclusivity. Notably, women make up 40% of Binance’s total staff and over 50% of the marketing team. These women are spread across various divisions, playing pivotal roles in Binance’s organization.
In March, to mark 'International Women’s Day,' Binance held large-scale events featuring financial education, networking, and panel discussions in 11 regions worldwide, including Dubai, Italy, Spain, Argentina, and Brazil, drawing significant attention from the industry. Furthermore, in the case of Binance Turkey’s Women in Technology Academy, the program provided training to over 1,000 women in just one year and plans to educate 5,000 women over the next five years.
Richard Teng, CEO of Binance, stated, "Globally, as many as 1.4 billion people lack access to financial services, and a significant portion of them are women. The more active participants there are in the ecosystem, the more the intrinsic value of cryptocurrency will be realized; thus, supporting women is a key task directly tied to the overall development of the industry."
