On the 19th (local time), Linda Xie, Coinbase product manager, stated on X that "In 2016–2017, I proposed Coinbase issue its own USD stablecoin, but it didn't happen," and shared that there was even a spec document prepared at that time.
She added, "Execution ultimately matters more than ideas," and evaluated that "The team that actually launched USD Coin (USDC) achieved excellent results and the timing was appropriate."
