Summary

  • Toss Bank has reportedly filed 48 related trademark applications to secure its position in the KRW-based stablecoin market.
  • The trademarks cover fields such as virtual asset financial transactions, electronic transfer, and remittance services, drawing significant attention from investors.
  • This is described as a strategic move to secure a business foundation before the government and financial authorities begin discussions on stablecoin legislation and regulatory frameworks.

Toss Bank has moved to secure a large number of trademarks in order to preempt the Korean won-based stablecoin market.

According to industry sources on the 30th, Toss Bank recently filed a total of 48 stablecoin-related trademark applications, including 'KRWTBK', 'KRWTSB', and 'TSKRW'. The applications cover businesses such as virtual asset (cryptocurrency) financial transactions, electronic transfer, and remittance services.

This move is interpreted as an effort to establish a business foundation before the full-scale discussions on institutionalization begin. Previously, the government and financial authorities announced plans to form a Task Force (TF) in the second half of this year to prepare stablecoin legislation and regulatory frameworks.
