Shinhan Card Files for Stablecoin Trademarks for the First Time in the Credit Card Industry

Shinhan Card has filed for trademarks related to stablecoins (virtual assets pegged to fiat currency).

According to the industry on the 1st, Shinhan Card filed eight trademark applications related to stablecoins, including 'SHCw', 'SKRW', 'KRWSH', 'SOLKRW', 'SHWON', 'SHCKRW', and 'SHKRW', on the 27th of last month.

The trademark classes include cryptocurrency brokerage, token issuance and redemption business, and money transfer business. There is speculation that this move is an effort to secure trademark rights in preparation for the activation of the stablecoin market.
