C&M Software, a service provider that connects Banco Central do Brasil and local financial institutions, suffered a major hacking incident.
According to local reports in São Paulo cited by Cointelegraph on the 5th (local time), a hack occurred at C&M Software, resulting in the theft of funds worth 800 million Brazilian reals (about $140 million, approximately ₩190,800,000,000) from six connected institutions.
The hack was caused when a C&M employee handed over their login information to a hacker in exchange for about $2,700. Using this account, the hacker infiltrated the software system and stole funds deposited in reserve accounts.
It is reported that the hacker converted a portion of the stolen funds, worth about $30 million to $40 million, into Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) on local Latin American exchanges and OTC (over-the-counter) platforms.
