Wi Sung-rak, Presidential Office National Security Advisor visiting the US, held consultations with US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio on the 7th (local time) and discussed ways to advance bilateral relations, the Presidential Office announced on the 8th (Korea time).

The Presidential Office stated, "Our side emphasized the need for both countries to consult with the spirit of alliance to further reinforce the alliance on a broad basis in ongoing issues between the US and Korea," and added, "It was also mentioned that the security advisors from both countries should work closely together for this purpose." In addition, it was conveyed that there was hope for an early US-Korea summit to promote mutually beneficial outcomes on key issues.

The US side reportedly shared this sentiment. In particular, in relation to the tariff letter sent by President Donald Trump, the Presidential Office said, "Since there is still time until the actual tariff implementation date of August 1, it is hoped that both countries will closely communicate to reach an agreement before then."
