The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has decided to suspend the lawsuit filed against the global cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase until the ruling of the appellate court.
On the 23rd (local time), Cointelegraph reported that "Sharon Johnson Coleman, a judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, has decided to suspend the lawsuit alleging violations of the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) against Coinbase until the appellate court's decision."
The court is expected to refer to the outcome of a similar case currently under review by the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, specifically regarding Nuance Communications providing voice recognition technology to Charles Schwab. Therefore, the ruling in that case could have a direct impact on the Coinbase case.
In its decision, the court stated, "This suspension will simplify the issues, streamline the trial process, and reduce the litigation burden for both the court and the parties," and further noted, "The plaintiffs will not be unduly prejudiced or suffer strategic disadvantages."
As a result, the lawsuit against Coinbase is expected to resume after the appellate court’s ruling.
