Avalanche "Layer 1 has reached its limit… must restructure business model for infinite expansion" [Eastpoint Seoul 2025]
Summary
- John Nahas, Ava Labs CBO, said the Layer 1 blockchain market has reached its limit.
- Avalanche said it is restructuring its business model through customization services that provide the functions institutions need.
- The California Department of Motor Vehicles, Japan's SMBC, Nexon, and SK Planet have adopted the Avalanche mainnet.

John Nahas, Ava Labs Chief Business Officer (CBO), said that the most basic blockchain business model, 'Layer 1 (L1)', needs change.
At the global Web3 private conference 'Eastpoint: Seoul 2025' held on the 22nd at the Grand Hyatt Seoul in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, CBO Nahas said, "Recently many Layer 1 networks have been coming out blindly in the virtual asset (cryptocurrency) market. They are all networks that only partially improve upon the shortcomings of existing Layer 1s."
Nahas CBO said, "Layer 1 blockchains should stop meaningless competition in terms of speed and cost and move to a new stage," and explained, "To this end, Avalanche provides customization services that selectively offer the functions institutions need."
In fact, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Japan's SMBC, and others have adopted Avalanche as their mainnet. Among companies, Nexon's Web3 game platform MapleStory Universe and SK Planet's reward program have adopted Avalanche as their mainnet.
Nahas CBO said, "Avalanche can be customized by anyone in just one minute. To lead the true popularization of blockchain, it is necessary to provide customers with the customized Layer 1 blockchain they need," and expressed confidence, "We will lead a new business model for Layer 1."
