Summary

  • The U.S. Senate rejected bills to resume government operations, increasing the likelihood that the federal government shutdown will be prolonged.
  • Both budget bills introduced by the Republicans and Democrats failed to pass in Senate votes, putting budget handling at an impasse.
  • Accordingly, the timing for resolving the shutdown has become unclear, which could increase uncertainty for investors.

The U.S. Senate's rejection of bills introduced by the Democrats and Republicans to resume government operations has increased the likelihood that the federal government shutdown (temporary closure) will be prolonged.

On the 7th (local time), according to Walter Bloomberg, the temporary budget bill submitted by the Republicans failed to secure the votes needed for passage in a Senate vote. The budget bill introduced by the Democrats also failed to pass, with 45 in favor and 50 against.

As a result, handling of the government budget bill has reached a deadlock, making the timing for resolving the shutdown unclear. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump urged the resumption of government operations, saying, "The government must open even tonight."
