Bhutan is moving its national identity system from Polygon (POL) to the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain.
According to crypto-focused media Cointelegraph on the 14th (Korean time), Bhutan has completed integrating its Self-Sovereign ID system into Ethereum, and plans to complete the migration of credentials for all citizens by the first quarter of 2026.
Aya Miyaguchi, chair of the Ethereum Foundation, said, "The country's dedication to granting its citizens self-sovereign identity is deeply moving," and said, "This integration is the world's first attempt and a leap toward an open and secure digital future."
Bhutan had previously operated its identity system on Polygon since August 2024, and before that on Hyperledger Indy.
