Following the presidential election, 'virtual assets' in New York too… Andrew Cuomo, "Make New York a center for virtual assets"

Former New York governor Andrew Cuomo has presented a vision as a main slogan in the current New York mayoral race to make New York City the world's largest center for virtual assets (cryptocurrencies) and technology.

On the 20th (local time), according to Cointelegraph, Cuomo said, "I will reorganize New York into a center of future innovation where blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and the biotech industry intersect."

For this initiative, Cuomo plans to create a Chief Innovation Officer position and form an 'Innovation Council' that will oversee regulatory improvements and investment attraction for each industry. The council will have advisory committees for the virtual asset, AI, and biotech sectors and will discuss industry adoption, workforce development, and regulatory easing measures. He emphasized, "I will change the existing regulation-only policy into an innovation-friendly environment," and "I will make New York stand again as a leader in global financial and technological innovation."

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams recently created a department in charge of digital assets and blockchain technology and presented an innovation city plan, but he abandoned his bid for re-election amid political pressure.

Cuomo will compete in this election against Democratic candidate Joran Mamdani and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. According to a New York Times poll, the current front-runner is Mamdani.
