Summary

  • Bloomberg reported that Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance, signaled a reattempt at the U.S. market after receiving a pardon from President Trump.
  • There are expectations that this pardon could allow Binance to fully resume U.S. market operations.
  • Industry experts said Changpeng Zhao's operational involvement and return to the company could lead to significant growth and bold execution.

Recently, with U.S. President Donald Trump unexpectedly pardoning Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, attention has turned to Binance's next moves.

On the 26th (Korea time), Bloomberg reported that after Zhao received President Trump's pardon, he signaled a return to the U.S. market.

Immediately after the pardon announcement, Zhao wrote on his social media (SNS), "I am grateful for the pardon, and I will work to make the United States the capital of virtual assets."

Earlier in 2023, Zhao and Binance were indicted in the United States on 13 counts alleging violations, including the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) law. Later in November of the same year, Zhao, as part of a settlement, pleaded guilty to violating the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act and stepped down from his position as chief executive officer (CEO).

After being found guilty on multiple charges, Binance was effectively unable to operate in the U.S. market.

However, with this pardon, there are prospects that Binance could fully resume business in the U.S. market. Marcus Tillen, CEO of 10x Research, said, "Binance's U.S. arm could be reintegrated into the global Binance ecosystem," adding, "This would allow U.S. investors to access Binance's services."

Cosmo Zhang, a partner at Pantera, said, "Changpeng Zhao will be more actively involved in Binance's operations after being pardoned," and added, "The founder's return to the company could lead to significant growth and bold execution."
