Summary

  • Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko pointed out that Ethereum Layer 2 does not inherit security.
  • Yakovenko said that complete security is difficult due to Layer 2's complex code structure and custody issues.
  • Some industry figures said that concerns and positive opinions are simultaneously emerging regarding the increase of Layer 2 projects.

Solana (SOL) co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko questioned Ethereum (ETH) Layer 2 networks. He questioned whether Ethereum's security and decentralization are preserved in Layer 2.

On the 27th (Korean time), according to cryptoasset (cryptocurrency) Cointelegraph, Yakovenko argued, "The claim that Layer 2 inherits Ethereum's security is wrong," and pointed out, "Layer 2 makes complete security audits impossible due to a large attack surface and complex code structures."

He said, in particular, "Layer 2 relies on multisig-based custody, so funds can be moved without user consent," and "It has been 5 years since Layer 2 appeared, but it still has not resolved its problems."

In fact, concerns about the recent excessive proliferation of Layer 2 have arisen across the industry. Adrian Brink, co-founder of Anoma, criticized, "There are 10 times more Layer 2s than the industry needs."

There are also opposing opinions. Igor Mandrigin, co-founder of Gateway, countered, "The increase of Layer 2 is a healthy sign, meaning network expansion and diversity." Anurag Arjun, co-founder of Avail, also said, "Each Layer 2 is a high-performance chain that provides Ethereum with various processing options."
