Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that the United States and China should maintain a friendly relationship.

He said, "The United States and China should be partners and have a friendly relationship," and explained, "At talks held a few days ago in Kuala Lumpur, the two countries' economic and trade teams reached a basic agreement on their respective major concerns. This has created the necessary conditions for today's meeting."

He added, "I hope today's talks will lay the foundation for the bilateral relationship and foster a friendly atmosphere between the United States and China," he emphasized.
