Sport.Fun, a blockchain-based sports gaming platform, said on the 14th that it will build a new entertainment model that combines fantasy sports with information prediction markets.
Sport.Fun’s key differentiator is that it overlays market-based price discovery and an asset-trading concept onto traditional fantasy leagues, where users compete by predicting player performance. Users can buy fractional stakes in real athletes to build a portfolio (squad) and earn rewards based on weekly tournament results driven by real-game data.
The biggest difference versus existing fantasy leagues is that player stakes do not expire. Sport.Fun is closer to a spot portfolio that users can hold and rebalance over the long term. Users can focus on short-term form, or pursue longer-term strategies that take multi-month schedules and form into account.
Player stake prices are determined by supply and demand. Users can design their own analytical frameworks—such as identifying forwards undervalued relative to expected goals, or goalkeepers overvalued relative to clean sheets. The structure links profits to the ability to find mispriced assets.
Stakes are traded in the platform’s in-app currency, “Gold,” and pro-version users can convert it into USDC. At the same time, users earn Tournament Points (TP) based on player performance, which can be used to open “Player Packs” that include new player stakes. New players are introduced via separate special packs, while regular player packs only release existing player stakes to curb excessive supply. A contract concept is applied to player stakes, with contracts consumed when participating in tournaments.
According to Sport.Fun, cumulative trading volume had surpassed $90 million as of December last year, and cumulative users stood at around 20,000. A Sport.Fun official said, “With a low barrier to entry, we will redefine the existing fantasy league market,” adding, “We will bring sports traders, fantasy league users and general users together.”
