Forecast Trend Report by Period

Alphabet Inc., Google's parent, is gaining ground on Nvidia Corp. in the race to become the world's most valuable company after a sharp rally in its shares.
Bloomberg reported on May 10 that Nvidia's market capitalization was about $4.9 trillion at the end of October last year, compared with $3.4 trillion for Alphabet. The gap has narrowed sharply over the past six months. Alphabet shares have climbed about 43% over that span, while Nvidia has risen just 6.3%.
Alphabet's momentum was especially strong in April. The stock jumped 34% during the month, its biggest monthly gain since 2004. That has significantly reduced the market-value gap and brought a change in the rankings into view.
Investors cite Alphabet's broad business portfolio across the artificial intelligence ecosystem as a key strength. AI is being integrated into its core businesses, including search, cloud, YouTube and autonomous driving through Waymo, diversifying its profit base.
The company is also drawing attention for its in-house AI chips, or tensor processing units, and the competitiveness of its Gemini generative AI model. Its investment in AI startup Anthropic further strengthens a vertically integrated structure spanning infrastructure and applications.
Nvidia remains the dominant player in the AI chip market. Still, some investors say its business model may be more sensitive to swings in a specific industry cycle.
"Nvidia could be much more sensitive to the economic cycle if AI investment slows," Luke O'Neill, chief investment officer at CooksonPeirce Wealth Management, said. Alphabet is positioned across nearly every part of the AI ecosystem, he added, so even if the AI investment cycle cools, its diverse businesses can help offset that.
Valuation concerns and intensifying competition remain key variables. Alphabet shares are trading above their historical average after the recent rally, and whether the company can maintain an edge in the AI model race will be a crucial issue going forward.
