Summary

  • President Trump's pro-crypto policy was reported to be not yet concrete but meaningful in the long term.
  • The US government's Bitcoin stockpile could put pressure on other countries to hold Bitcoin as well.
  • Stablecoins are being discussed as tools to strengthen the US dollar's position, and the industry is watching Trump's policy developments.

Last week, a cryptocurrency summit was held at the White House under the leadership of US President Donald Trump. While many issues were discussed including stablecoins and Bitcoin (BTC) reserves, industry experts suggest that Trump's pro-crypto policy, though not yet concrete, certainly has long-term significance.

According to crypto-focused media The Block on the 9th (local time), Michael Anderson, co-founder of Framework Ventures, described the establishment of US cryptocurrency reserves as "surreal. It's still more symbolic in meaning, but still significant." He added, "The US government currently stockpiling 200,000 bitcoins puts pressure on other countries to stockpile some bitcoin as well."

Thomas Klocanas, partner at another venture capital firm Blocktower Capital, focused on stablecoin policy. Klocanas said, "There were several interesting aspects, but what stood out most was the discussion of stablecoins as a tool to strengthen the US dollar's position as the dominant reserve currency." In fact, during the meeting, President Trump expressed hope that the stablecoin bill would pass before Congress adjourns in August.

Regarding this, The Block assessed that "the industry remains in a wait-and-see phase as President Trump's cryptocurrency strategy unfolds," adding, "VCs hope that if regulatory clarity is established within the next few months, it will mark the beginning of a new era where the US takes the lead in the cryptocurrency industry."
