During last year, the assets of the world's 500 richest increased by 2.2 trillion dollars (about 3,180 trillion won). The world's richest was Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla.

The Guardian, citing Bloomberg's billionaire index as of the 31st (local time), reported that the net worth of the world's 500 richest increased by 2.2 trillion dollars compared with a year earlier. About 25% of the total asset increase was accounted for by eight billionaires including Musk. Their combined net worth was 11.9 trillion dollars (about 17,220 trillion won).

As of the 1st, Musk's net worth was 619 billion dollars (895 trillion won), up 187 billion dollars (about 270.59 trillion won) from last year. Larry Page, Google co-founder, ranked 2nd with a net worth of about 269 billion dollars, up 101 billion dollars from last year.

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, rose by 14.6 billion dollars to 253 billion dollars for 3rd place, and Sergey Brin, Google co-founder, increased by 91.8 billion dollars to 250 billion dollars for 4th place. Larry Ellison, chairman of Oracle, saw an increase of 55.2 billion dollars, bringing his net worth to 247 billion dollars.

Also following were Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Meta (233 billion dollars, 6th), Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH (208 billion dollars), former Microsoft chairman Steve Ballmer (170 billion dollars), and Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA.

Warren Buffett, ranked 10th and called the 'sage of investing,' saw his fortune rise by 9.44 billion dollars to 151 billion dollars. Of the top 10, aside from Arnault and Buffett, eight came from big tech (large technology companies).

In South Korea, Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, had assets of 17.3 billion dollars, ranking 153rd; Cho Jung-ho, chairman of Meritz Securities, was 457th with 8.03 billion dollars. U.S. national Kim Byung-ju, chairman of MBK Partners, was 381st with 9.34 billion dollars.

The Guardian analyzed the increase in net worth of the 500 richest as resulting from billionaire U.S. President Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election and the boom in cryptocurrency, stock, and metals markets. Citing Oxfam, it also reported that the 2.2 trillion dollar increase in the net worth of the 500 richest would be enough to lift 3.8 billion people out of poverty.
