Incheon City Actively Promotes Blockchain Utilization Projects… "Central Government Should Expedite Institutionalization of New Technology Projects"
On the 28th, Bong Seong-beom, Chief Policy Officer of Incheon Metropolitan City, who participated in the 'AI·Blockchain New Technology Convergence Seminar' hosted by Na Kyung-won and Choi Bo-yoon of the People Power Party, urged the central government to legislate laws related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain, stating that "projects that local governments want to promote are not being institutionally established." On this day, Chief Bong explained that the blockchain projects being carried out in Incheon have reached a feasible final stage. He said, "Since the launch of the 8th popular election, Incheon has been focusing on creating an environment by viewing blockchain technology as a core of the 4th industry." He added, "From April to December, we plan to build a blockchain mainnet with a budget of about 470 million won." The Incheon blockchain mainnet is expected to be a solution for public service agencies. Chief Bong stated, "We are focusing on developing a qualification document program, a document review program, and a qualification document brokerage program to expand the Incheon blockchain-based electronic wallet (citizen card) platform." He continued, "Once the mainnet construction is completed, Incheon citizens will be able to use credit cards, driver's licenses, etc., within the Incheon electronic wallet." In addition, Incheon has embarked on developing services utilizing blockchain. These include ▲Island Pass for island tourists, ▲Eco Hub Platform for practicing environmental protection, and ▲Intellectual Property Protection Platform for creators. Chief Bong said, "We will start development from March to December to allow citizens to experience blockchain technology." However, Chief Bong emphasized that faster institutionalization is needed to establish such new businesses at the local government level. He explained, "In the case of new industries like the digital industry, the golden time is often missed," and "Incheon also aimed to become a blockchain hub and tried to attract overseas digital asset exchanges, but it is virtually impossible due to current domestic regulations." He also added, "Incheon will continue to introduce future food sources like AI and blockchain technology to promote policies that meet the needs of citizens for sustainable development."
