Nomura Holdings of Japan said it issued a security token that invests in a Japanese venture capital (VC) fund worth about ¥8 billion. This is the first security token in Japan designed based on a VC fund.
On the 2nd, Nomura Holdings said it completed the issuance procedures for the professional-investor-only, transfer-restricted private security token product 'Nomura Private Series B Dash Fund 5 Tokenized VC Fund 202510' together with Nomura Asset Management, Nomura Trust and Banking, and Boostry (BOOSTRY). The issuance size is about ¥8 billion (about KRW 75.3 billion).
This product is the first security token in Japan that invests in a VC fund, and Japan's digital securities issuance and distribution system 'J-Ships' was applied for the first time. Recording of profit rights and transfers are processed on the blockchain platform 'ibet for Fin' operated by Boostry.
VC investment in Japan generally uses a limited liability partnership (LLP) structure, and there were criticisms that contracts and administrative procedures are complicated. Nomura explained that by tokenizing VC profit rights to digitize holding records and simplify the rights transfer process, it has increased accessibility for professional investors.
The Nomura Group said, "We have expanded private market-related products to complement our public market business, and this issuance is part of that strategy," adding, "the company plans to continue providing various private asset investment opportunities."
